Dinner and speakers

Last night for dinner Jac steamed vegetables – choy sam, fresh asparagus and swiss brown mushrooms, which she served with a mix of oyster sauce, fried garlic and onion. The vegetables were steamed in our bamboo steamer, the sauce made in a fry pan and poured over the top of the vegetables when they were […]

Low energy + fish sandwich

After the hectic last week, I feel kind of low on energy this week. As the day went on today, I felt increasingly tired and decreasingly sociable. I might work at home tomorrow so I don’t need to face anyone. I’m not depressed or anything like that; I just feel physically drained and it’s normal […]

Pork ribs for brunch

The ribs had been marinating in Lee Kum Kee char siu sauce since Friday night. Jac cooked them in the oven, brushing with honey half-way during the cooking. They were tender and saucy and just beautiful with rice for my Sunday brunch.

Saturday lunch

Slept in this morning, then got up and went to the shops. Had lunch at Nando’s, which I really enjoyed. Jac chose the Mediterranean Chicken Salad. The salad consisted of lettuce, cherry tomatoes, red onion, capsicum, olives (already pitted) and fetta cheese, topped with pieces of grilled chicken (Jac chose mild peri-peri). The dish came [&hel…

Week

Review: The High Road Bistro (Part 3) – Sweets

The kids had chocolate sundaes recommended by our waitress. They came topped with a mountain of whipped cream dusted with chocolate. Not sure how much they were. The result was happy children with chocolate-streaked faces and very sticky hands. I had to take this picture really fast because S wanted to plunge in. None of […]

Review: The High Road Bistro (Part 2) – Main courses

I must say the first thing I thought about when I realised there would be seven of us dining was the food photo opportunities! I promised everyone that I would take the photos of their food very quickly, and so they were happy to cooperate. So let’s begin. K’s mum ordered one of the daily […]

Review: The High Road Bistro (Part 1) – Salad Bar

Last night we went to The High Road Bistro in Riverton to celebrate Jac’s sister-in-law K’s birthday. We had an early dinner, Morty and Helen Seinfeld-style (well, we were late diners even by their standards! See the episode The Cadillac, Part II). We met there at 5:30pm and left before 7:30pm! The High Road Bistro […]
