Another excellent barbie at Lou and Dan’s, Part 1

Today, we went to a barbie at Lou and Dan’s, to celebrate Dan’s birthday. HAPPY BIRTHDAY, DAN!

When we arrived Lou was just putting the nibblies out on the table, so I whipped out the camera and got to work right away.

On one side, pate and mini toasts:

On the other side, a bowl of marinated olives and sour cream and chive flavoured rice crackers. I tend to stay away from sour cream and chive flavoured anything because it just repeats on me for much too long afterwards. I did think the crackers had a cute shape though!

Olives are something I never eat, but for those of you who do like them, I took this close-up:

Lou also served a hot cobb loaf which she had hollowed out, filled with a delicious filling and then baked in the oven. She got the recipe from Peter’s Favourite Recipes. The bits of bread from the hollowed middle of the loaf are baked with the filled cobb and served with it – they are soooo tasty, toasted and crisp on the edges but chewy and so sooo good when dipped into the filling. I’ve eaten different versions of this cobb dish over the years (all filled a variation of cheesey deliciousness), but this was the first one I’ve had with spinach in it, and it was very good indeed.

OK, end of Part 1. I have (I think) three more “parts” to post, but I need to have some dinner now. (Incidentally, it will be leftover sausages and salad that Lou packed up in doggie bags for us!) I’ll be back.
