Most of the week’s food

Jac made fried rice on Monday. It was especially yummy because it had roast pork in it – roast pork that had been in our freezer since Mother’s Day!

On Tuesday we had panfried pork steaks with vegies. The vegies were sauteed potatoes and garlic, steamed cabbage and zucchini, and orange mash. The potatoes were simply parboiled with a couple of whole cloves of garlic, and then sliced and seasoned with salt and pepper and tossed in a hot pan (the garlic too). Jac gave me both garlic cloves to eat, which I just loved. The orange mash is made from carrots and sweet potatoes – if Jac’s using the oven to cook meat at the same time e.g. roast, she’ll roast the sweet potato and carrot; if she’s not using the oven for meat, she steams the carrots and sweet potatoes. Either way, they are mashed with a little butter and salt and pepper. No milk or cream or anything. Very simple. The blackish pool next to the pork steak is smokey barbecue sauce, of course.

Wednesday night we had curry. Jac used Malaysian curry powder that one of her workmates gave us, along with coconut milk, carrots, onions, green beans, fish, seafood extender and fishballs. The seafood extender (Jac says crabstick, I say seafood extender) and fishballs were included because we’re trying to eat up the stuff in the freezer (hence the roast pork in the fried rice on Monday!). I’m not sure what the fish was… shark, I think. That Malaysian curry powder had a delicious flavour. I had the last of it for my breakfast this morning. Yes, curry for breakfast is great!

Curry

This was dessert after the curry, low-fat vanilla ice cream with fresh strawberries. Yeah, I only eat low-fat ice cream, and even then, only rarely.

Every few weeks I post a photo of char kway teow. I had it for lunch on Thursday at uni. It was a good day at the office. Most of the time it was just me, reading parts of my chapter amendments out loud to myself. Singing along to The Very Best of Sheryl Crow. Falling asleep.

Shopping tomorrow, and two family birthdays being celebrated on Sunday. That will be the weekend.
