The weekend’s food

On Saturday morning Jac and I went to the shops and I introduced her to Sumo Salad. We shared a regular grilled chicken caesar, which came with a free bread roll, which was a nice bonus – when Juj and Jay and I ate Sumo Salad in town we didn’t get free bread.

Jac really enjoyed the caesar and was especially impressed by the chicken and croutons, and the abundance of bacon. The salad tasted just as good as the one I had in town.

On Saturday night we cooked a chicken and noodle stir-fry, Pad Thai-style. I say style because we used half a jar of Pad Thai sauce to flavour the dish, but strictly speaking it probably wasn’t really Pad Thai. As well as chicken, we had carrot, cabbage, spring onions and a tin of assorted stir-fry bits: baby corn cuts, bean sprouts and sliced water chestnuts. We meant to have fresh bean sprouts in there but the supermarket was all out of them. We would’ve used fatter noodles but this was all we had in the pantry – we must replenish our pantry’s noodle range. The water chestnuts were lovely and crunchy and the sauce was just so tasty. Jac and I ate our noodles with pickled green chillis too. All three of us helped prepare dinner – which was fun.

On Sunday morning Jac and I felt like bacon and eggs. Jac fried the bacon and cherry tomatoes while I made scrambled eggs. I was supposed to make toast too, but I completely forgot while tending to the eggs and Jac ended up having to do it (oooops :)). The tomatoes came from our garden, and they were really sweet. With freshly cracked black pepper, they tasted superb.

Breakfast

Sunday evening VR had a hankering for KFC, and so we had KFC, coleslaw and chips for dinner while watching one of my Christmas pressie DVDs, Mission: Impossible III.

Today at uni I took two pieces of KFC (I ate one piece cold and gave MK the other, which she ate cold too) and the leftover noodle stir-fry. It will be good when uni’s back to normal and all the food outlets are open again. Right now almost everything is shut and I have to remember to bring food in… or hit the vending machines, which I’d rather not have to do.

That’s all I have for now as far as updates go. I’m now going to reply to comments and emails etc. You guys sure know how to keep a gal busy! :-D I’m not complaining, I love it!
