Turkey thigh roast

After my sushi lunch and completing a few little errands, I dropped by Woolies to pick up some bread. I also had a look to see if they had any turkey bacon. Alas, they didn’t – however, I bought this interesting looking turkey thigh roast with – according to the label – “fruity stuffing”. Jac cooked it up on Tuesday evening for dinner. I love how the house smells when there’s a roast in the oven.

She served the roast with corn on the cob, which she roasted in the oven at the same time, steamed vegetables (broccoli, green beans, carrot and snow peas), mashed potatoes and gravy (it was Gravox brand ready to use Roast Gravy out of a carton – yum). We had wholemeal bread rolls too, but I couldn’t even contemplate fitting any bread in. I wasn’t going to waste precious stomach space on bread!!! Before you freak out about how much meat I ate, rest assured that large chunk of turkey you see on my plate includes quite lot of bone.

The turkey was pretty tasty – all dark meat, of course – we are dark meat people all the way. I still prefer chicken any day, though. The turkey looked just like roast pork, which was strange and wonderful at the same time. The stuffing wasn’t very nice; I would not describe it as the label did, as “fruity”. It was rather bland and disappointing (I soon elevated its edibility factor with a generous pouring of gravy – I guess gravy’s very useful like that). Jac was very good and didn’t eat any of the skin. No prizes for guessing what I did. :-P

Turkey looks like pork!

We had enough leftovers for our dinner the next evening, so overall it was pretty good value – a couple of kilos for just under $10.
