Monday bento – herb and garlic chicken, salad and fruit

Back to normal programming!

This is what I packed for our bento lunches last Monday: herb and garlic chicken wingettes, salad, three fruits (strawberries, papaya and starfruit), and for Jac, a portion of Kiri cheese spread and bread and butter.

Our bento lunches

Since our lunch featured star-shaped fruit, I drew a star on Jac’s bento note. To be honest, I don’t care that much for starfruit; we used to eat it often when I was a child in Malaysia, and I was never a fan back then. I’ll admit I only bought the starfruit simply because I thought it would look cool in our bento boxes. We did eat it, of course, but I still don’t like it that much. I don’t think I’ll rush to buy more. :)

Jac's bento note

The salad consisted of mixed gourmet salad leaves, green beans, cherry tomatoes, cucumber and mushrooms. Jac cooked the chicken on the weekend specifically for bento. She simply marinated the chicken wingettes in olive oil, herbs and lots of fresh chopped garlic overnight, and then spread the wings and marinade on a tray and baked it all in the oven. It was extremely garlicky and really delicious to a proud garlic fiend like me. To spare my workmates from killer garlic breath afterwards, I chewed plenty of minty gum. :)
