This was my lunch last Thursday, a large meatballs and rice takeaway (AU$7.20) from 88 Royal lunch bar (88a Royal St, East Perth). I’d eaten this meatball dish once before and loved it – I’ve said previously it tastes very much like a dish my late grandma used to cook when I was a child. 88 Royal has a small selection of hot dishes every day at lunch time, and you never know what dishes they’ll be. I’ve enjoyed everything I’ve eaten from their bain marie – red curry chicken and rice, stir-fried curried rice noodles, fried rice with honey chicken, satay chicken and vegetable stir-fry – but this is my favourite of the lot. It was a generous serving too – eight meatballs, nicely browned on the outside and moist on the inside, with plenty of tomatoey, oniony gravy.
