Prawn parcels and saucy noodles

This is another place I’ll miss from East Perth. I know the noodles at Noodlebox (118 Royal St, East Perth) are far from authentic, but I love noodle stir-fries, and a noodle stir-fry would have to be pretty dismal for me to not enjoy it. This was one of my very last Noodlebox lunches.

I’ve been getting the same design-your-own noodles each time: thick egg noodles, chicken, tofu, fish cake, bok choy, onion and egg with oyster sauce. Design-your-own noodles are more expensive than the standard menu choices – a small box of design-your-own noodles costs around the same as regular sized menu noodles, or even more, if you choose double tofu or double fish cake, as I liked to do sometimes. But I don’t mind paying a little more to get exactly what I want. There are no menu noodles that come with chicken, tofu, fish cake and egg in oyster sauce, for example.

In addition to my noodles, I decided to try a couple of prawn parcels. They were served on some sad-looking lettuce with a sachet of sweet chilli sauce.

There was a lot of floury filler in the parcels, but thankfully you could see faint evidence of pink prawn meat in there. The filling did taste of prawn, but only just. The crispy batter was good, but at AU$1.50 per parcel, these were definitely not worth it!

As I tucked into my two-course meal, my workmate B ate a more healthy-looking lunch, her favourite lunch to have – a salad combination from Aroma. This is something I never had for lunch the whole time I worked at East Perth. :)
