Work lunch – spinach and ricotta ravioli with meatball sauce

A takeaway work lunch – spinach and ricotta-filled ravioli with tomato meatball sauce, which I guess isn’t a typical pasta and sauce combination. That’s what happens when I get to choose from a bain marie! Well, it was either this sickly looking salmon cream sauce, napolitana sauce or this very appealing looking meatball sauce, and the ravioli or penne pasta, so I just chose what looked the best to me.

I found a sunny spot, spread my black winter jacket on the grass and sat on it like it was a picnic rug to eat my lunch. The woman who served me had been very generous with the meatballs, which was awesome as they were well-seasoned, coated liberally with sauce and tasted deliciously homemade. The spinach and ricotta pasta was very good, and the tomato sauce was bursting with flavour, with little bits of onion through it. I know you would probably never find spinach and ricotta ravioli served with meatball sauce in any Italian restaurant, but I really enjoyed this lunch.
