Single dish: Pinoy breakfast

Cafe Vivo

It’s the kind of place you’d drive by and probably never feel compelled to check out – an unassuming cafe flanked by discount furniture shops in a suburb without a cappuccino strip. It’s called Cafe Vivo, and as soon as I spotted the Pinoy Breakfast on the menu among the bacon, egg and toast variations, I had to order it. Stubby, garishly red longaniza sausages, sweet chicken tocino, two fried eggs with soft yolks, and garlic fried rice with a pretty good cup of coffee, all for AU$19.95. I haven’t eaten enough Filipino food to comment on the authenticity of my breakfast, but this protein-rich plate was delicious and satisfying, and I hope to have it again.
