A few lunches

On Thursday I had char kway teow ($8.50) from the Chinese stall next to Gelatino in the Subiaco Pavillion Markets. It was just like the Singapore fried bee hoon I had there recently, lots of fried egg, chicken, fish cake and three plump, bursty prawns.

On Friday I had Saigon crispy chicken fried rice ($9.00) from a Vietnamese stall at the Station Street Markets – it’s the stall next to the bakery, not in the main food court. They pop the chicken drumstick straight into the sizzling hot oil to deep fry it when you order this dish. The chicken skin is golden and tantalisingly crispy, and the meat is moist and tender. I also got a small container of sweet chilli dipping sauce to go with my chicken. My workmates were most intrigued when they saw my great big piece of fried chicken. I think a couple of them might give it a try sometime.

The fried rice is really good – it’s very simple, well seasoned, with lots of fried egg through it, served with sliced fresh cucumber and tomato. It’s a well-known fact to regular readers that I’m not a fan of coriander. Yes, I picked all the coriander out and left it aside while demolishing everything else.

One of my workmates had spinach and fetta gozleme with hommus and salad, which looked really good too…

…and another of my workmates had combination rice paper rolls ($5.00) from the Vietnamese place – one chicken, one vegetarian and one prawn.
