July: awesome food event month (especially for mushroom lovers!)

July is going to be an awesome food month – especially if you’re a mushroom lover!

LEGO chef with mushrooms: July is Mushroom Mania month

It’s Mushroom Mania month, a nationwide celebration of mushrooms! As part of Mushroom Mania, I’ll be dining out and blogging about the mushroom dishes I eat during July. Check out mushroommania.com.au to find out more, find restaurants where you can eat mushroom dishes, join the free Mushroom Lovers Club and get great mushroom recipes. Visit the Mushroom Mania website with your iPhone or smartphone to download the Mushroom Mania app to help you find local participating restaurants.

July will be an awesome month for Perth food lovers!

How do bratwurst, hot roasted chestnuts, traditional gingerbread houses, spiced hot chocolate and warm mulled wine on a cold winter’s night sound? Winterfest is on this Sunday 3 July at St George’s Cathedral in Perth. Organised by the same people behind the Twilight Hawker Market in March, there will be a candlelit evensong service at 5pm followed by food stalls and entertainment from 6pm to 8.30pm. One of my favourite Perth market food stalls, Marcelita’s Empanadas, will be there cooking up empanadas as well as other tasty Colombian treats!

The Good Food & Wine Show Perth on from 15-17 July at Perth Convention and Exhibition Centre. Just like last year, Jac and I are taking a day off work to go to the show together. I’m looking forward to eating, photographing and tweeting my way around the show and spending a lovely foodie day out with my sweetheart. I wonder what delights we will taste and take home with us this time?

The fifth annual Mundaring Truffle Festival is on 30 and 31 July. Chefs who’ll be there include Alain Fabregues, Truffle Festival founder and owner of The Loose Box restaurant, Stephanie Alexander, Russell Blaikie of Must, Dan Masters of Rockpool Bar & Grill Perth – and there are many more! There will be cooking demos, a truffle masterclass, a gourmet produce market, a licensed Food Piazza where you can buy dishes featuring truffles and lots more. There will be truffle dog demonstrations and a truffle market where you can buy fresh truffles to take home (you can buy as little as 5 grams, which is great, given how expensive they are!). Visit www.mundaringtrufflefestival.com for all the details.

It’s going to be challenging for Jac and me to get to all events as we’re both extremely busy with work, which is continuing to affect our home and leisure time, including weekends which are so precious and getting ridiculously busy too. “Challenging” is the word I use to describe things right now – on a good day. We’re both doing our best to keep up with it all, remember to have fun and eat some great food along the way.
