Another Friday night
Another Friday, pay day and chinese home delivery dinner. We were in the mood for our favourite dishes tonight, so you may have seen some of these dishes before. First, we ordered a large special fried rice.
The only “new” dish ordered tonight, because we were also in the mood for soup – this is filet chicken and mushroom soup. The soup was light and flavoursome without being overly salty, and there was plenty of chicken and straw mushrooms in it.
Jac’s favourite – pork chops in nanking sauce. Battered pork chops in a sweet, syrupy, finger-sucking sauce. Some of the pork chops have a bone in them, some don’t, and so mouth injury is a danger for the over-enthusiastic, greedy, forgetful biter i.e. me.
My favourite – szechuan (ma po) tofu. I could eat this all day. The tofu is soft and delicious in the spicy sauce, and the minced chicken is really tasty. Jac said tonight she’s always thought it was pork, not chicken! Heh. They could cook the chicken in pork fat for all I know – it tastes that good. Tonight all of our takeaway containers were filled to the brim, absolutely bursting, and when I lifted the lid off the tofu, some of the precious, delicious sauce leaked out onto the tablecloth. D’oh!
Our token vegetable dish. Jac loves broccoli. I’ll eat it quite willingly, but it’s nowhere as satisfying to me on a textural level as snow peas or green beans.
Sizzling chicken with ginger and shallots. This dish came with more vegetables than it usually does, so we ended up with two vegetable dishes.
It was a scrumptious meal, and they even threw in two free bags of prawn crackers too.
We have a busy weekend coming up, which includes grocery shopping, pet food shopping at City Farmers, a trip to the asian supermarket to replenish our dangerously low rice stocks and Jac’s brother’s birthday breakfast. We need to clean the house and defrost the bar fridge. Jac wants to trim the lawns using the lawn trimmer we got her for her birthday (can you believe it? She hasn’t had a chance to use it yet!). There’s also an urgent need for me to tidy my study, which is in its weekly state of “exploded”.
