Assam Laksa in Perth
This post is a reply to Pamie’s question re: where to get assam laksa in Perth. I was about to email you directly Pamie, but then I thought there might be other people who might be interested or might be able to help. As I told Pamie, I am not a fan of assam laksa, so I had no idea where she could go to eat it. But emailed my Mum because I knew she would know as my Dad loves assam laksa.
Mum’s top recommendation was Ang’s Malaysian Chinese Takeaway, located at 24 Flinders Square Shopping Centre in Yokine, just in front of the Coles Supermarket. According to Mum, Dad loves the assam laksa there and it tastes very authentic. The only limitation is that you can only get assam laksa there on Saturdays. Definitely go for lunch – by dinner time it may be sold out. I’ve eaten lunch at Ang’s and it’s delicious – accordingly it can get busy, but it’s well worth it.
Mum also mentioned Penang Cuisine at Spencer Village (but I think you may have tried it Pamie, and not liked it?). She also reckons it would be available at Taurus Hawker Foods, Shp 10/ 113 Collins Rd Willetton – we got dinner from there last night, and I did look for it on the menu. I didn’t see it though. What I reckon you should do is give them a call (9259 1788) and ask if they sell assam laksa. Their food is delicious, so if they do sell assam laksa, it would probably be really good too.
Mum also mentioned that there’s a Penang restaurant in Northbridge on William Street, closer to the bus-station end (on the right side of the road as you face the Horseshoe Bridge, after Kakulas) that she reckons will definitely sell assam laksa. Mum couldn’t remember the name of the restaurant other than it has “Penang” in its name; I looked it up in the White Pages and there is a “Penang Food” restaurant listed, at 175 William Street.
