Saturday, Part 2

The play we took Savannah to yesterday was written and directed by my PhD supervisor and performed by university drama students. It was good fun and very colourful. We were well-stocked with munchies – we’d each selected one item from Coles: chewy lollies (Savannah), Crunch chocolate bar (Jac) and Pringles original flavour (me, of course I always choose savoury snacks over sweet). I was spewing though, that we hadn’t known there would be a Jesters kiosk at the play. Three girls sitting right behind us had a meat pie each during the intermission, and it smelled SOOOOO good. Damn damn damn, tummy full of McDonald’s! I had room for a few Pringles but that was it. I couldn’t believe how many lollies Savannah managed. Luckily, she has a fairly good off-switch and we didn’t have to resort to confiscating the lolly bag (actually, it would have been me to do the confiscating if it had been necessary. I have no problem being the mean one). The line for Jesters was really long though, so it was probably a good thing we’d already eaten lunch.

After the play, Savannah’s mum came to pick her up, and Jac and I went to visit our friends Sascha and Dave who live near uni. By the time we left Sascha and Dave’s, it was just about time for dinner. I was exhausted and grumpy and starving again (god knows why I was hungry, as I’d been sitting on my arse for most of the afternoon). We decided to get some takeaway from Taurus Hawker Foods. Jac decided what she wanted straight away – char kway teow.

I ummed and aahed over the menu, but it was really busy and there were heaps of people waiting behind us to order. In the end I chose fried noodles with chicken, which turned out to be just like hokkien mee and was really tasty.

Jac also ordered some popiah, but although she said she wanted it with no chilli when we got home we realised the popiah she’d been given was loaded with chilli! Luckily, Jac is not as much of a chilli wuss as me, and enjoyed it anyway.

After dinner we channel-surfed aimlessly and finally settled on Bring It On, which was really quite entertaining.

It’s the first exam week this week, which means sandwiches for lunch (BOOOOO!). I don’t get much time between morning and afternoon exams, so I have to bring something for lunch that I can bolt down. Jac’s bought me a barbecue chook from the supermarket just so I can make sandwiches. Tomorrow I hope to make a chicken, mayo and mustard mix which I will have with cucumber. On Tuesday maybe I’ll do a mix of chicken, tomato sauce, mayo, finely chopped onion and sun-dried tomatoes. I don’t make sandwiches often as I prefer hot lunches, but when I do I always make sandwiches for Jac too. She looooooves sandwiches and would happily eat them every day. I do get a little thrill thinking about Jac eating sandwiches I’ve made.
