Family Dinner, 31/01/2006
Yesterday evening, we all got together again for dinner on CherryRipe’s last night in Perth. (This sentence originally read: “Last night, we all got together again for dinner on CherryRipe’s last night in Perth”).
We had a curryfest cooked by Mum and Juji, complete with basmati rice and papadams. We usually have the plain papadams, but this time Juji thought it might be fun to try this “spicy” variation. Pheeeeeeeeewwww! They were spicy, all right! I took one bite and my mouth was instantly on fire, my nose running like crazy. I quietly passed the rest of my papadam to Mum.
We had curried chicken drumsticks:
We also had beef curry, which is an old family favourite, with onions and tomato. The actual recipe is for mutton, and comes from one of Mum’s oldest friends in Malaysia. As usual, the beef curry for mainly for Dad, who does not care for chicken at all.
Juji made a big pot of dhal, which was just lovely with rice:
And we had a curry of snake beans and chickpeas too. Juji used a curry packet mix to make this dish – it’s called chhole.
Mum fried up a batch of curry puffs for CherryRipe to take home to her hubby.
