SPAM Single 2

Sometime ago I wrote about SPAM Single. Well, I finally cracked it open the other night and cooked it up.

SPAM Single, unleashed

It would have been cool to create something really original with it, but I wasn’t feeling particularly inspired, so I just did my usual thing of SPAM, egg and rice. Here it is, sliced into quarters and ready for frying. It looks so pink and porky to me in this picture, even though it also looks so um, square. (Homer Simpson voice: Mmmmm, square.)

While I was busy cutting up my SPAM, and cooking rice to eat with the SPAM, Jac had been busy making a big pot of vegetable soup. She used all the old vegetables we had in the bottom of the vegetable crisper in the fridge. Ugly old bruised tomatoes, bendy wrinkly carrots, a forgotten quarter of a cabbage and a wilting bunch of spring onions among other things. She flavoured the soup with curry powder, and it smelled wonderful (it tasted pretty good too!).

Back to the SPAM. First I fried it until crispiness was achieved…

…and then I added two eggs (which I had beaten in a bowl with a dash of soy sauce and a sprinkle of white pepper) and fried it all together. Oh yeah!

And here it is, SPAM Single, egg and rice with baked beans on the side.

The SPAM Single tasted good, but it had a texture that seemed even more reconstituted than the normal tinned SPAM has (that sounds so disgusting, doesn’t it? hahaha). Tinned SPAM seemed more springy; SPAM Single seemed softer. I much prefer the texture of the tinned SPAM. Will I buy SPAM Single again? Well, if I open a tin of SPAM I can get three meals out of it if Jac doesn’t have any – but it’s probably not good for me to have multiple SPAM meals in a row, so these Single serves are handy to ensure one-off SPAM meals.
