Short stories: Daily morning coffee
When I worked in East Perth, my daily routine involved stopping off at City Farm Cafe for my regular order of a takeaway soy flat white before heading to the office.
Now that I work in the city, I haven’t felt compelled to find a new regular coffee place, and I haven’t missed that daily morning cup of coffee at all. On my last day working in East Perth, I bought coffee; the next day, I just didn’t.
Instead of coffee, I’ve been drinking Caro, a caffeine-free drink made from roasted barley, malted barley, chicory and rye.
I still ‘go out for coffee’, but it’s no longer an essential or regular part of my day.
I wonder which is worse to a barista: a regular customer finding a new favourite coffee place, or confessing she no longer desires that daily cup of coffee at all…
Do you need that first cup of coffee to get you going in the morning?
The photo is of my brother-in-law Jay knocking back a short macchiato before breakfast.
