Salsa’s Fresh Mex Grill, Cannington

We recently tried Salsa’s Fresh Mex Grill. It’s a franchise that’s relatively new to the food court at Carousel Shopping Centre. We shared a combo of Macho Nachos, Mexicrinkles and a small drink (AU$16.90 for the combo).

There are vegetarian nachos options at Salsa’s, but we chose the meat nachos, Macho Nachos. You have the choice of Texan beef or chicken – naturally we chose chicken. I liked the corn chips very much. They were deliciously crisp, rough-cut and larger than the kind you buy at the supermarket, perfect for digging into (or perhaps shovelling :)) the nacho topping. The corn chips were smothered with salsa, refried beans, cheese and topped with a blob of sour cream. Pretty tasty.

The Mexicrinkles are crinkle-cut fries seasoned with Salsa’s special spice blend. They were freshly cooked and very crispy but the seasoning, predominantly paprika, I think – seemed to add more colour than flavour. Nice hot chips though.

It’s not one of the cheaper takeaway options, but we enjoyed it. I won’t be rushing to have Mexicrinkles again, but next time I think I’ll try Salsa’s chicken tacos or one of the burrito bowls. And of course I’ll tell you guys what I think of them. It’s good to have another tasty option the next time I crave nachos when shopping – remember the nachos with baked beans?

More Mexican

  • We had a yummy breakfast at That Little Mexican Place in Victoria Park last year. I must return to try their empanadas.
  • I have fond memories of a delicious Mexican banquet with friends at Acapulco Annie’s back in the 1990s (warning, the website features one of my web pet hates, auto-play music), but my favourite Mexican restaurant is still Pancho’s in Victoria Park. We are long overdue for a meal at Pancho’s – the last time we ate there was for my birthday back in 2006 (I hope you will agree my photography has improved since that post :))!
  • Mexican food cooked at home: chicken enchiladas and tacos
