Photo of the day: What’s cooking?
I took this photo as my friend Magda cooked us a feast of Polish dumplings for Sunday lunch – pierogi filled with forest mushrooms, some with pork and beef, and some with potato and cottage cheese (also known as pierogi ruskie, or Russian pierogi). She served the pierogi topped with soft, sweet caramelised onions in butter. Also, my favourite of the lot, kopytka – potato dumplings similar to gnocchi, topped generously with fried bacon lardons. The kitchen smelled wonderful, and Jimi, Butterbean and Mr Fluffy thought so too.
