Sausages and sauerkraut (for Haz and Todd)
These are actually old photos, from Jac’s birthday celebration at the Duckstein Microbrewery in the Swan Valley, way back in 2002. Some of you will have seen them before on a previous incarnation of my site, but I thought I’d post them in honour of Haz and Todd, who have been waxing lyrical about sausages and sauerkraut. :-D We had a delicious lunch with Jac’s best mates and had a lovely afternoon out in the beer garden. This was in the days before I began to seriously take food photos, so I didn’t actually photograph everyone’s meals like I would if we went now.
This was my lunch: bratwurst (the ring-shaped sausage), German fried potatoes and sauerkraut. I’ve always thought the dollop of mustard on the left of the plate looks like cat poo (yummy though – the mustard, not cat poo heheh). The “foot” you see to the right of the photo above the plate is a plastic sitting bulldog that barks when you walk past it. One of Jac’s mates gave it to her as a pressie. Jac named him Butch. We still occasionally switch on his bark and set him to guard a piece of furniture we don’t want the cats to jump on.
Jac’s lunch: two frankfurters, served with German potato salad and a dollop of mustard also cat poo-style. Since I don’t like sauerkraut (I do love cabbage usually, just not sauerkraut) I gave her mine.
This was a mate’s son’s lunch: a gigantic schnitzel, drowned in thick and tasty gravy. The chips were super crispy and had an amazing flavour. We think they must’ve been fried in animal-based fat, rather than vegetable-based fat.
Anyway, if you’re interested, check out the Duckstein website to see the menu and read about their beers. Hmmmmm, might have to try to get back there sometime for a feed.
We’re off to my folks for dinner tonight. Hopefully I will have some new photos to post after that.
