Dinner: vegetable pasta and fried fish

I’m now up to the posts written since Jac returned from her trip. This was the first dinner she cooked the day after she got home. She cooked vegetable spiral pasta with tomatoes, beans and peas, and served it with fish pieces seasoned in flour, salt and pepper and a little “Kentucky” seasoning (see this […]

Sushi selection

Jac recently met me for lunch. We ate at Sushi@Royal (Shop 2, 131 Royal St, East Perth). I had Japanese chicken curry; Jac had a sushi combination – left to right: salmon sashimi, seaweed, marinated octopus, cooked tuna and mayo mix, tamago (omelette), prawn, and pickled ginger. She really enjoyed the sushi and said she’d […]

Sandwich bento

With Jac still away, there was just me to eat the bread – so I made more sandwiches for lunch. I used 6 slices of bread, and ate one of the sandwiches at morning tea time. Along with the sandwiches, I packed a small piece of dark fruitcake and some spinach leaves and cherry tomatoes. […]

Oyster sauce pork mince with green beans and baked beans

I wanted to make minchee, but when I opened the potato keeper, well, let’s just say the potatoes had been long forgotten, were beginning to change state and grow some spectacular horns. :) So, a change of plan was needed, but only a slight change. I’d rubbed the boneless skinless chicken thighs with garlic salt and white pepper and panfried th…

Fish and chips and calamari

Still listening to my cravings, I walked to our local fish and chippie recently and got myself fish and chips and calamari rings. I like fish and chips just salted, no vinegar. I get red and blotchy when vinegar touches my skin (yes, I know – ewww!).

Scrambled eggs on a toasted English muffin

A weekend breakfast I made for myself while Jac was still away: two scrambled eggs on a lightly toasted English muffin. With freshly cracked black pepper on the eggs, of course. People often comment on the yellowness of the eggs we eat. We buy free range eggs, which usually have lovely, bright orange yolks.

McChicken and sad, soggy fries

I was craving a McChicken recently and went to McDonald’s and got one. Sometimes I don’t try to fight the cravings – they just hang around or come back even more powerful than before. The McChicken was great, but the fries were sad and soggy. Sad, but that seems to be the way most of […]

Cloud cakes and noodles

My workmate R brought in a batch of cloud cakes for everyone to enjoy. I didn’t actually have one myself, so I can’t tell you what they were like. But the rest of the team loved them, and they were all eaten by the end of the day. I know the ‘clouds’ were meringue. Maybe […]
