Tuesday morning

On Tuesday I attended a job interview* in the morning and then caught the bus from town to join my family in sorting through Mama’s things and cleaning/clearing her flat. I’ve had this tradition for many years of eating junk food before a job interview or on my first day at a new job. As […]

Still more fish and salad

Continuing on with our month of many meals featuring fish and salad, here’s another. This was dinner last Sunday. First, salad. This one had green seedless grapes in it as well as the usual stuff. Jac parboiled potatoes and whole garlic cloves and then roasted them in the oven until the potatoes were crispy and […]

A cooked chook

Jac and house guest VR are in Mandurah this weekend, staying with mates by the beach. They’ll be home on Sunday arvo. It’s 2:50am and I’m finally beginning to feel like going to sleep. But before I do go to bed, here’s a photo of a barbecue chook we ate last weekend. VR had expressed […]

Baubles

We have also been saddened this week by the sudden death of my sister’s cat Baubles. Having lost our cat Ruby in tragic circumstances a number of years ago and knowing just how much we love our two furry babies now, I can imagine just how devastating this loss has been to my sister.    […]

Next week will be even more challenging, but I can’t go into details right now. Last Thursday night, we had another grilled fish and salad meal. Here’s the big …

Tuesday night barbie

Yesterday evening after work Jac cleaned the barbie (it hadn’t been used for quite some time) and then cooked up a delicious dinner on it. We had grilled eggplant, red capsicum and tomatoes with beef sausages for VR and me, and vegetarian sausages for Jac (which tasted surprisingly like meat sausages – I did prefer […]

Hello, chicken rice… and goodbye, chicken rice

It’s been a long time since I ate Hainan chicken rice at uni. That’s the annoying thing about the long summer holidays – all the food places at uni shut down. Hey, I’m not saying the staff shouldn’t have holidays! I just miss being able to eat char kway teow or chicken rice for the […]
