New job, new food

So this is what I ate for lunch in my first week at my new job: Monday – a chicken kebab with tomato, lettuce, mayonnaise and barbecue sauceAll kebabs come with your choice of two sauces – I really wanted garlic sauce as one of them, but as I had a meeting in the afternoon, […]

Zoe’s Full Moon Celebration

In early April, my family held a “full moon” celebration for the newest member of the family, my niece Zoe, the second child of my brother and my sister-in-law. Regular and long-time readers will remember the full moon celebration we held for Ruby about a year and a half ago. Zoe’s full moon followed the […]

Three curries in a row

Without planning to, I had curry three days in a row! The night before Jac made a Thai green curry with fish, eggplant, zucchini and peas. She didn’t cook the fish in the curry; she panfried a couple of fish fillets, placed the fish on top of the rice, and spooned the curry over the […]

Mum’s cheat’s curry puffs

Recently, my mum gave me these puff pastry squares with a container of chicken and potato curry. As she explained, they’re her “cheat’s curry puffs”. She’s made these for workmates and friends recently, and thought I’d enjoy them too. With the pastry warmed in the oven, and the curry zapped in the microwave, thes…

We had afternoon tea that day to celebrate workmate P’s birthday. He brought in this iced pecan […]

Simple Keens curry

Jac made this curry recently, with chicken thigh pieces and vegetables – whatever we had in the fridge, freezer and pantry that needed to be used up – potato, sweet potato, carrot, cauliflower, broccoli, onion and peas. The curry flavour came from Keens traditional curry powder. Boy, it was good.

First taste of Japanese curry

I had my first taste of Japanese curry Tuesday last week. I bought a takeaway Japanese curry chicken from Sushi@Royal (Shop 2, 131 Royal St, East Perth). The thick curry sauce with pieces of carrot and potato was served on top of rice and sliced chicken katsu. A few sweet red pickles added a splash […]

Red curry chicken

Dinner last Monday night: red curry with chicken and lots of vegetables (potato, sweet potato, broccoli, onion and green beans). Jac used red curry paste from a jar – Valcom brand, I believe. I think I prefer Thai green curry to red, but this was very tasty. My favourite curry dishes (in no particular order): […]

Curried chicken mince and vegetables

The Continental “Hearty Dutch curry & rice” soup mix made a reappearance in this recent meal cooked by Jac, with chicken mince, carrot, cabbage and green beans. The last time Jac used the Dutch curry mix, she served it with mashed potato. This time, we ate the curried mince and vegetables with rice. A very […]
