Wednesday bento

I was sure Jac would really like the tomato and cheese “sandwiches” on skewers that I’d made for my lunch on Tuesday, so I made her a couple as part of Wednesday’s lunch. She said she’d love a sandwich for lunch, and so I made her a sausage, cos lettuce and corn relish sandwich. The […]

Tuesday night cooking and eating

On Tuesday night Jac cooked up food for dinner and lunches. She baked a tray of chicken wings in the oven. On the left are barbecue flavoured wings, on the right – hoisin sauce and garlic flavoured. I ate a few wings for dinner… …along with a bowl of freshly cooked fried rice. This version […]

Tuesday bento

Jac didn’t need lunch on Tuesday, so here’s what I made for myself. Top: Oven roasted onion and butternut pumpkin (from Sunday night’s cooking session), baby cos lettuce, and baby roma tomato, Jarlsberg Light cheese and sweet pickle “sandwiches”. My inspiration for the “sandwiches” came from Polly Jean, who…

Bangers, mash, beans, corn and peas

Dinner last Monday: lamb and garlic sausages from Woolworths, with garlic mashed potatoes, peas and baked beans with corn kernels. The sausages had an enticing springy texture and were so well-seasoned I didn’t need any sauce. She served the chicken with steamed sugar snap peas and garlic mashed potatoes – yum! After dinner we prepared some food for bento. I seasoned […]

Asian-style egg and vegie scramble

Jac went out early last Sunday morning to visit her friend who lives in the hills. I stayed home and made myself some breakfast. I chopped up mushrooms, the last of the snow peas and a clove of garlic. I beat a couple of eggs in a bowl with some white pepper and soy sauce. […]

Worst garlic bread ever

We grabbed dinner in Victoria Park before going to Chad’s birthday party last Saturday night. We wandered up and down Albany Highway looking for somewhere to eat. Stupidly on our part, we hadn’t made a reservation anywhere, and as it turned out, most of the cafes/restaurants were fully booked. Whoops. In the end, we managed […]

My new bento gear

I’ve been looking forward to this! Some of the bento gear I purchased online arrived last week, including my very first bento box. I thought it would be easiest for me to tell you guys all about it via video, so here it is, via YouTube. I shot this video in one take not long […]

Food hall feasting

Last Friday night, Jac and I went to Spencer Village (on Spencer Road, Thornlie, adjacent to Thornlie HJs and KFC, opposite the Thornlie Train Station) for dinner. We started with a shared large curry combination. Vegetables cooked in a lightly spiced coconut milk gravy (along the lines of sayur lodeh), chicken curry, lamb curry and […]
